A journey from Norway’s capital of Oslo through the country’s most dramatic and beautiful scenery and landscapes to the picturesque maritime port of Bergen and its medieval Bryggen hanseatic Wharf, and on through the mountains and fjords by the Flam Railway, one of the steepest and windiest railways in the world, and back to Bergen by train.

The Norway in a Nutshell© trip takes you through some of Norway’s most beautiful fjord scenery. You can experience the scenic Bergen Railway, the breathtaking Flam Railway, the Aurlandsfjord, the narrow Naeroyfjord and the steep hairpin bends of Stalheimskleiva (May – September). The trip runs daily all year.

  • 1 Arrive Oslo Norway’s capital lies between the Oslofjord and the lush green forests and has a special combination of city life and easy access to the great outdoors.
  • 2 Oslo sightseeing and attractions Explore Oslo on foot and enjoy the city’s perfect mix of urban life and natural beauty. Norway’s capital is a vibrant mix of old and new architecture, world-class museums and modern-day culture. Or hire a bike and explore the nearby Oslofjord, or take a fjord cruise on the Skibladner – the oldest paddle steamer in the world.
  • 3 Oslo to Bergen by train The train journey that you definitely don’t want to miss! This is the main leg of the Norway in a Nutshell© scenic tour. It boasts the highest altitude of any other train route in Europe, passing over the plateau of Hardangervidda. Mountains, snow, greenery, wildlife, rooftops, sunets and sunrises – no matter what it is you want to see, this route covers it at some point during the year.
  • 4 Bergen Explore Bergen’s charming cobblestone streets of old wooden houses in Sandviken or Nordnes, visit Bryggen or the Hanseatic Wharf – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – or for a bird’s eye view, take the Floibanen funicular up the mountainside.
  • 4 Hurtigruten Alesund – Geiranger – Alesund The Hurtigruten coastal steamer departs from Alesund at 9.30am every day, and arrives in Geiranger at 13.30pm. Take in magical scenery, dramatic waterfalls and lush, steep hillsides or check out the Norwegian Fjord Centre in Geiranger itself.
  • 5 Norway in a Nutshell© This popular tour takes in Voss, a central stop on the spectacular Bergen Railway, a bus from Voss to Gudvangen, a cruise through the Aurlandsfjord and the narrow Naeroyford winding around precipitous mountains, mighty waterfalls and small hillside farms, and finally a dramatic rail journey on the Flam Railway, one of the steepest train lines in the world.

All rates mentioned are an approximate price per person on a twin-sharing basis, and are based on a minimum of 2-5 adults travelling together. Most Holidays are based on Independent Rail Tour mode of Travel . Holidays could be Customised to your requirements and you could choose to upgrade to Selfdrive or Exclusively Private basis starting from 4 and above we could offer you the whole tour with a Minivan or Coach for the entire period with a dedicated Norwegian guide for all sightseeing and excursions optionally . Spring is from May to mid-June is when the scenery in Norway is at its most spectacular, with trees and flowers waking to life,snow in the mountains .Orchards of flowering fruit trees along the Hardangerfjord in May are images of paradise.

In Late June to Early August Norway experiences warm , bright long days with temperatures between 25 - 30°C .With the sea temperatures around 18 °C it’s a good time to swim . In Autumn the landscape is painted Golden making it a good time to to pick berries and mushrooms .You can experience the midnight sun in the Northern most part of the country above the Artic Circle .

In winter much of Norway is usually transformed into a snow-clad paradise and is the time to witness the amazing Northern Lights

Remember that the weather and temperatures can change quickly, especially in the mountains. So whether summer or winter, autumn or spring –and bring good footwear and warm clothes
