  • 1 Vienna Old Town - City Sightseeing Take a walk around the Innere Stadt, Vienna’s medieval heart, it’s an ideal way to spend a morning or an afternoon. Explore the twisting streets, it’s here that you’ll find the iconic 10thcentury Stefansdom Cathedral and the shops that line the pedestrian-only Graben. Stop at one of the many restaurants and coffee houses for a coffee and pastry – they are center pieces of the culture here, in fact, sample them at Café Central, one of the city’s most famous coffeehouses The Ringstrasse, a grand circular boulevard built in the late 19thcentury, surrounds Innere Stadt. Here you will find Vienna’s most famous sights, including the Museums Quartier complex, the Rathaus (Old City Hall), and the Staatsoper (State Opera House). Take a scenic look at Vienna on the Ring Tram, it’s a continuous hop-on, hop-off guided tour of the Ringstrasse with video screens and commentary that stops at 13 stations.
  • 2 Vienna Schonbrunn & Hofburg Palace – Spanish Riding School A tour of Schloss Schonbrunn focuses on the palace itself – especially the Habsburg residents. Wander through the grand rooms and learn all about the habits and quirks of Austria’s famous family. Of the 1441rooms within the palace, 40 are open to the public. Nothing symbolises the culture and heritage of Austria more than its Hofburg (Imperial Palace). The Habsburgs were based here for over six centuries. You will be bowled over the size and architectural beauty and diversity of this palace that was added to over the centuries by the new rulers. The world-famous Spanish Riding School is known all over world for its majestic Lipizzaner stallions that perform an equine ballet to a programme of classical music. Watch from pillared balconies with the chandeliers shimmering above.
  • 3 Vienna to Salzburg - Birthplace of Mozart On To Salzburg, and home to Mozart. Standing beside the fast-flowing Salzach River, simply look up and be awe-inspired by the city’s wonderful backdrop of graceful domes and spires, the formidable cliff-top fortress, and the mountains beyond– pure romance and inspiration. Every where you go in Salzburg, the scenery, the skyline, the music, and the history sends your spirits soaring. You certainly won’t get tired wandering through the Unesco-listed Old Town drifting from one baroque church and monumental square to the next, in a daze of grandeur. Meander the side streets too where classical music wafts from open windows, linger decadently over coffee and cake, and let Salzburg work its magic. Be overwhelmed by the Dom Cathedral with its bulbous copper dome and twin spires – a masterpiece of baroque art. Visit the Salzburg Museum housed in the baroque Neue Residenz palace and take a fascinating trip through Salzburg’s past. Learn all about Mozart and his family at the Mozart-Wohnhaus museum where the family lived and where Mozart composed works such as the Shepherd King. On to Mozart’s Geburtshaus, where his son was born, and where there is an interesting collection of instruments, documents and portraits. There are so many wonderful restaurants to choose from and to taste sizzling and stirring schnitzels that are fried to perfection.
  • 4 Salzburg - Sound of Music Tour The hills are alive in this original ‘Sound of Music Tour’. Enjoy a day trip visiting the breathtaking landscapes and locations where the famous musical was filmed. The guide will show highlights of the film and also the historical and architectural landmarks in the city, as well as part of the picturesque lake district. Relax and listen to the soundtrack on the way or sing along to the famous songs and lyrics as you travel through the hills and past the lakes. You will stop in Mondsee for about an hour where you will have free time to explore Mondsee Cathedral and the setting of the famous wedding in the film between Maria and Captain von Trapp. Explore this beautiful Austrian town at leisure and stop at Mrs. Brown’s café to taste the best ‘crisp apple strudel’ in town!
  • 5 Salzburg - Lakes & Mountains Take a tour out to the stunning scenery of the Lake District of Salzkammergut, where Salzburg’s Prince Archbishops held royal hunts and the Austrian Franz Joseph and his family spent their summer vacations. Pass by gorgeous Lake Fuschi with Castle Fuschi, now a luxury hotel, on its shores. Explore the little town of St. Gilgen where Mozart’s mother was born, and enjoy a short boat ride to St. Wolfgang. Here you will find extraordinary beauty in abundance, as well as the famous pilgrimage church with its carved gothic winged altar by Michael Pacher. Enjoy picturesque scenes during the return trip, passing Lake Krottensee, Huttenstein Castle, the shoreline of Lake Mondsee and the town of Mondsee, with its famous old monastery.
  • 6 Innsbruck - local sights and attractions Every corner you turn in Innsbruck you will see spectacular views of the Nordkette Alps, and you will be bowled over by the number of impressive castles and palaces. Spend the morning at the Hofburg Castle that was built for Archduke Sigmund the Rich in the 15thcentury and was given a total baroque makeover by Empress Maria Theresia in the 18thcentury. See one of Europe’s finest royal court churches – the gothic Hofkirche, it was commissioned in 1553 by Ferdinand I. Innsbruck’s golden wonder is the Goldenes Dachl & Museum – a gothic oriel, built for Emperor Maximilian I that glitters with 2657 fire-gilt copper tiles. Schloss Ambras is perched on a hill and was transformed from a fortress to a palace by Archduke Ferdinand II in the 16thcentury. Don’t miss the 43m-long banqueting hall with its wooden inlaid ceiling.
  • 7 Innsbruck - attractions - optional Swaroski crystal world A ride on the space-age Nordkettenbahnen funicular fromthe Congress Centre to the slopes of the Alps is a must. Walking trails head off in all directions from the top, and for more of a challenge there is a downhill track for bikers. Visit the Volkskunst Museum, next door to the Hofkirche. It presents a fascinating display of Tyrolean folk art from hard-carved sleighs and Christmas cribs to carnival masks and cow bells. People from all over the world flock to see the Swarovski Crystals that are displayed in all their glory at this museum – set in a park - in Innsbruck. A giant’s head spewing water into a pond greets you in the park, and you can see the world’s biggest crystal, weighing 62kg.
