  • 1 Rovaneimi – visit to Santa’s Village and Arctic Winter World Meet Santa Claus in his homeland and cross the magical Arctic Circle every day at the Santa Claus Village. Here the Elk folk built a special place where Santa could meet people from near and far at the Northern Arctic Circle. Greet the elves and other fairytale creatures and join them in daily chores in Santa’s underground home cavern. Playing in the snow is where the real fun is! Jump on a sledge in the glow of the Christmas tree lights and enjoy the beautiful snowy environment. The Arctic Winter World is the merriest place to beat Christmas. Next door to Santa’s cavern, it’s a winter wonderland of skating, snowball pits, an orbital sleigh-go-round, ice sculptures, and an ice bar offering delicious icy clear drinks.
  • 2 Rovaneimi – sightseeing and attractions Home to the Lapland Chamber Orchestra, the Korundi House of Culture is a veritable feast of Finish culture, history and heritage. Get interactive at the Pilke Science Centre and learn about the landscape of the Arctic Circle, the northern forest landscape, the uses of the forests and their significance. Engage with local Lapland artists at the Rovaniemi Art Museum and see lots of fascinating Finnish contemporary art and indigenous peoples’ art. Wander around the city’s pedestrian Lordi’s Square and shop for Finnish design ware, native Lapp handicrafts and arts, and beautiful gold and jewellery made by local goldsmiths.
  • 3 Ounasvaara ski centre & Northern Lights reindeer safari A wonderful family ski centre close to Rovaniemi itself, there are slopes for beginners and the more advanced, lots of rental equipment sites, as well as a ski school. The views of the arctic landscape from the top of Ounasvaara hill are spectacular. Try some fun and speedy tobogganing, the hill is 800m long. The special toboggans are equipped with steering and brakes. Nearby Werneri Park offers an easy slope with magic-carpet lift, and winter carousal in the centre of the park. Glide through the arctic landscape on a reindeer sleigh and chase a sighting of the spectacular dancing light show in the sky – the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis. Short rides or longer 3-hour rides into the wilderness leave every day from Rovaniemi. Sometimes the northern lights flare up for a brief moment only, at other times you can enjoy the spectacle for several hours. The best time to catch them is just before midnight.
  • 4 Parpalandia paradise – snowmobile safari A paradise for lovers of the outdoors and wilderness, Parpalandia is a short half hour drive from Rovaniemi in the heart of Lappish nature. It used to be a family estate and is now a great base for winter activities including hunting, berry and mushroom picking, fishing, snowmobiling, and husky sled adventures through the Lappish landscapes. There’s accommodation on the estate too if you fancy an overnight stay. A guided snowmobile safari will take you into the beautiful and glistening snowy landscape where you can catch sight of elks, other small mammals, and plenty of winter loving birds.
  • 5 Parpalandia – husky sled adventure/rally driving Combine your magical Christmas with a genuine wilderness husky safari. Dog sledding is a thrilling experience and trained huskies will pull you through beautiful snowy landscapes and snowbound forests, across frozen lakes, and wild wildernesses. All of the huskies are well-trained and friendly and it’s a perfect activity for all the family. For the more adventurous, there’s rally driving on offer at the nearby snowy rally track, and, for those who want to take it easy, there’s a chance to relax by a fire and enjoy the clear, clean and mystical wintry outdoors.
