About

Sail south around the magical Ionian Greek islands on a 7-night sailing adventure by yacht that uses the island of Lefkas as a base. Sail through crystal clear turquoise waters, past islands covered in lush green landscapes, and around beautiful bays and beaches of fine white sand. Accompanied by professional crews, sailing yachts can normally accommodate 8 people, and have comfortable cabins, lots of storage, and ample space on deck for relaxing and sunbathing.

You should experience it because...

You will visit the wonderful island of Ithaka – a tranquil island with sheer cliffs, arid mountains, and miles and miles of green olive groves. Explore pretty whitewashed mountain villages and hidden coves with pebbly beaches, as well as monasteries and churches that offer Byzantine delights and splendid views.

Magical islands

Swim in the paradise-like turquoise waters of Lefkas - the fourth largest island of the Ionian Islands and a remarkably green island with gorgeous green landscapes.

Vassiliki Bay on Lefkas is a gorgeous spot and is backed by valleys full of olive and orange groves. The waters are serene and quiet – perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

Take time to explore the wonderful vegetation on Kalamos – there are trees of every kind including bay trees, olive trees, and pine trees with an exquisite aroma that fills the air.

  • 1 Arrival in Lefkas – meeting on the boat – depart for Kastos Hop on board a luxury yacht for an unforgettable sailing trip around the Ionian islands. Time to familiarise yourself with your cabin space and meet the professional crew who are on hand throughout your sailing adventure. They will give you a welcome briefing and explain about the arrangement of provisions. Meals and breakfast are provided on board, as well as water supplies, and fishing and snorkelling equipment. Depart for the isolated island of Kastos – only 80 people live on the island. Stop for a relaxing swim on the way in the clear turquoise waters of Agiofili, one of the sandy covers around Vassiliki Bay. Spend the night in the beautiful village of Kastos and sample the local fish delicacies.
  • 2 Sail to the islands of Atokos and Cephalonia We sail on to the uninhabited island of Atokos a perfect location to swim, snorkel and enjoy a barbeque. Continue to the cosmopolitan port of Fiscardo in Cephalonia. Enjoy dinner at a local taverna, and spend time wandering past the charming 19th century Greek white-washed houses that are set amidst fragrant pine groves.
  • 3 Sail to the island of Ithaka – swimming and sightseeing Today we set off to Ithaka – a land of myths and mythology and once the home of Ulysses. We anchor at the spectacular beach of Gremni where you can swim in a paradise setting at the foot of the dramatic cliffs, and then sunbathe on the beautiful, fine white sand. Next stop is the fishing village of Kioni in Ithaka – well known for its picturesque huddle of pretty white-washed Greek hillside houses.
  • 4 Sail to the island of Oxia – return to Ithaka An early start today for the tiny island of Oxia, located off the delta of the river Acheloos on the mainland. Enjoy complete and utter isolation here, and simply let yourself drift away on board deck, or swimming in the tranquil seas, or exploring the underwater world with an hour or two of snorkeling. The only company you can expect in this idyllic spot are a few local fishing boats. We sail under a starlit night back to the main port of Ithaka.
  • 5 Ithaka – the Nymph’s Cave – sightseeing We arrive back at Ithaka in time to watch the sun rise. We venture to the Cave of Nymphs. Legend has it that the Phaeacians abandoned Odysseus here while he was asleep. To get to the cave we take a pleasant walk from the coast, through a narrow path, to the Great Chamber of the cave that is hazily lit by a miniature Karst window on the ceiling that makes for a truly haunting ambience. Enjoy a visit to a unique home-museum in the town of Stavros that is run by a local school teacher and houses a fascinating collect of items excavated on the site of Ulysses’ palace.
  • 6 Sail to the island of Kalamos – swimming and snorkelling Sail on to the fishing island of Kalamos and spend a relaxing day snorkelling and swimming in the warm and peaceful waters. The island is a tall mountain range that floats on the sea and its northern side is full of towering, thick pine trees. They perch everywhere and reach as far as the edge of the sea. Take a short hike up the hill to watch the beautiful sunset, and end the day with a delicious farewell dinner at water’s edge taverna.

Summer is the high travel season in the Mediterranean. The weather is hot and sunny, the water is warm, and millions of people flock to the coast to soak up the sun and take a break from routine.. During the spring months, the flowers are blooming and the landscape is verdant, while autumn days are mild and clear before the winter rains.

Those wanting to travel earlier in the season can visit some of the more southern destinations as well as the larger Mediterranean islands. Cyprus and Malta are lovely in April, with warm days and pleasant nights. Late March through April is also an ideal time to visit Morocco, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, and Turkey.
